Social Job Search
Ahh...the quest for employment. Roughly 20% real unemployment nationwide - and most folks don't have a clue on how to land the few available jobs out there right now.
A job search, in my opinion, is essentially sales ... thereby selling "yourself". However, it's also adapted into a truly integrated interactive marketing initiative where only the knowledgeable persevere.
Using social media for the job search has become a no-brainer. However, to truly harness the power of the likes of LinkedIn, Plaxo and even Facebook for job searches - one must first be willing to admit to all in their network that they need work. Not an easy task for those over 20 years old - in my opinion.
With roughly 90% of jobs being filled OUTSIDE of the traditional job board posting sites - the real hiring is on the INSIDE. To truly get inside, social media is probably the most efficient way to get an automated campaign going.
Making your profile robust - and in fact advertising your search for new opportunities - would appear to be the first step. Step two is where it really gets interesting...that is the marketing of you and your credentials. Emailing the proper contacts - just within your reach - and perhaps even investing in a banner buy well worth the money in promoting one's self.
