CBS will be just fine thank you.

So on the outset - this is a typical media gloom-and-doom play. CBS earnings way down. Yes - this is likely the case. But they'll be just fine.

I'm a big fan of online media - in fact it's how I earn a living. Yet I don't see the big networks faltering anytime soon. Americans love to watch TV shows - prime time in particular - and big advertisers love the market share.

Sure - it's more cost-effective online. Can't really be argued. What can be argued is the future plan for CBS and other networks. Truth is, they've been making hand-over-fist money for decades. The model's changed now - and they need to adapt. How?

Ultimately, the networks are going to face some serious decisions - like lay-offs and added focus to online media which is the future. Better shows that are more cost-effective to produce - such as more reality stuff. Hate to even type those words.

Ultimately, this is a lesson in long-term planning. CBS will be just fine - it's just that the model's changed a bit in front of them and now they need to make some tough choices. But in the long-run, these decisions will be for the greater good and ensure longevity of the network for another decade.
