Watchout Google Adwords, Facebook is Coming!

Did you ever think that Google would have a serious competitor as far as there advertising sales? Well guess what, they do! Facebook is taking people by storm, not just because of its innate way to let people communicate and share thoughts, pictures, and ideas, but because of it’s ability to allow for paid advertising.

Similar to Google, Facebook began its success by building an empire based on consumers and their wants. It wasn’t until later that they began coming up with moneymaking products. Soon Facebook had moved towards the conventional way of online advertising, selling them to directly correlate to their members’ interests. This was when the “fan-page” was born.

Creating a Facebook fan-page is free and a great way to stay in touch with customers and fans through one central place. If someone becomes your fan on Facebook you will be able to share promotions, discounts, coupons, news, information and a plethora of other things with your consumer.

To be apart of the paid ad generation, all you have to do is provide Facebook with a credit card for billing and complete a series of questions on how to target the correct market. You will have to pick from things such as location, gender, age, hobbies, and other identifying information to help pick a target market for your advertisements. Based on this information, your Facebook fan-page or advertisement will appear on the pages of members that match your specified criteria. Easy enough, it generates huge amounts of traffic an can increase your brand visibility.

I see this type of marketing being best used by retailers with online stores. It will make it easy for you to promote new clothing lines, the latest video game, or a brand new cd. Then you can track the convesion rate by driving traffic back to your main site. Creating a circle of Internet Marketing will help drive Facebook members to your fan page, from your fan page to your website, from your website to E-Store, and from there you can book a sale!

With statistics like these its easy to see why predictions are marked in favor of Facebook. I look forward to seeing where their success leads to.
